Types of Protection Available

A life insurance policy is designed to pay out a lump sum if the insured person dies during the term of the plan. People take this sort of protection because for example they want to pay off their mortgage if they die so their family can continue to live in the home without the financial burden of mortgage or because they want to leave a lump sum for their family to replace their lost income.

An income protection plan is designed to replace a portion of your income if you are unable to work as a result of accident or sickness. People take this sort of protection because they want to ensure even if unable to work they will still be able to pay for things like, their mortgage, bills, car finance, phone contract, living costs.

A critical illness plan is designed to pay out a lump sum if the person insured suffers a critical illness during the term of the plan. There is a long list of illnesses covered but includes things like, heart attack, stroke or cancer. People take this sort of plan to pay off their mortgage or pay a lump sum to support them until they can return to work for example. Critical illness cover can be combined with a life cover plan.

Your mortgage lender will insist you have buildings insurance as the property is the security for the loan they have given you. Buildings Insurance protects your home against fire, flood, subsidence and other risks. Some fixed fittings will be covered under the Buildings policy. Contents insurance protects your belongings, you can choose to cover them just at home or if you take them away with you as well. There are many extra options with Buildings and Contents Insurance such as, Home Emergency Cover which gives you access to a service where the company will send out a repair person in the event of an electrical or plumbing emergency and cover the cost of the repair.
